

Robert "Mike" Michael Sandnes, 70, passed away December 20, 2016. Mike was born September 4, 1946 to Ingemund and Dorothy (Plaskett) Sandnes in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Southeast High School in 1965 and went on to obtain a bachelor of science degree in education from UCM (formally Central Missouri State College.)
Mike worked as a Commercial Insulator for 30 years. He was an active member of his Union, Local 27. He also enjoyed using his skills and teaching in the apprenticeship program.
Mike became interested in cars early on and built his first car, a 1953 Chevy he called the "Blue Goose." His love of cars continued his entire life. When he was no longer able to work on cars, he enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. Mike was also a gifted woodworker and builder. His talents were recognized by all who admired his work. Mike loved spending time with his family and friends and was overjoyed to recently become a Papa.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Norma Brown and Connie Fisher. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn; daughter Erin Sandnes; son Todd Sandnes (Karen); grandson Tatum Patton Sandnes; two nieces, a nephew, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but we rejoice knowing that he is with the Lord.
Due to inclement weather the Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
