It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Joseph Petsche of Overland Park, Kansas. Bob passed away at the age of 92 on April 24, 2024. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a caring friend and a life-long devout Catholic.
Bob is survived by his beloved daughters Deb, Angie (Greg), and Barb (Arnie), and his four adored grandchildren, Jenna, Erik (Hannah), Taylor (Austin), and Max (Michaela). He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy, his parents, Frances and Ernest, and his brothers, Jerry, Bill, and Tom.
Growing up in Nebraska as a boy, Bob’s shenanigans with his brothers included hunting, fishing, hitchhiking and sometimes causing general boyhood mayhem. He attended Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington, Nebraska, from which he graduated in 1949. He worked at the local movie theater and his duties included manning the popcorn machine and operating the projector. Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, was stationed in Germany, and served from 1953 to 1956. He attended the University of Nebraska and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. While at NU he met his future bride at a joint sorority/fraternity event. He graduated in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Bob married Sandra Huddleston of Omaha, Nebraska on September 5, 1959, in Lincoln, Nebraska. In June 1960 Bob accepted a job with Touche Ross (Deloitte) in Kansas City, MO. He became a CPA in 1963, quickly rose through the ranks and became a partner in 1969. Bob dedicated his career to the firm, becoming a well-respected and admired leader and mentor, and retired in 1990.
Bob became a member of the Indian Hills Country Club in 1976, where he formed several long-standing friendships and served as President in 1985. There he honed his golf skills by frequently enjoying rounds with his great friends until the age of 90. He also gave back to the business community by serving on Boards of various organizations. Bob remained close to his brothers, often embarking on memorable fishing trips with them to various beautiful destinations in the western United States.
He will be remembered by the many people whose lives he impacted with his wisdom, guidance, and friendship. He will be deeply missed by his family, who will forever cherish his big heart, sense of humor and sparkling blue eyes.
