Robert James Plisky was born on July 1, 1922 in Michigan City, Indiana. He graduated from Elston High School. He along with his brother, John Jr. were on the Spartan Athletic Club basketball team that won the City Championship.
During WWII, he served his country as an ensign on a destroyer escort in the Pacific theater. Prior to his shipping out, he met Rosemary Hoover in Lawrence, Kansas. She would become his wife and lifetime partner. He was one of the first to land on Hiroshima to help rebuilding after the Atomic Bomb drop there ended the war.
After the war, he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Missouri at Columbia. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
After graduation, he worked for American Paving and Construction Co. He worked hard to become a foreman and eventually the owner. He was a major stockholder and owner of Concordia Bank in Concordia, Missouri. He was a founder of the Winchester Gun Club in Bucyrus, Kansas. He was a passionate hunter and fisherman and became a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited. Also, he was a trustee for the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri and a past president of the Heavy Constructors Association of Kansas City.
He was a supporting Alumni Donor of University of Kansas Athletics with an emphasis on basketball until his passing having attended basketball games faithfully since 1955.
Robert passed on November 5, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Rosemary and Karen Plisky. He is survived by his brother John Plisky Jr. and daughter Carol Huskey
