Robert S. Saunders, 87, passed away at Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday, January 13 in the arms of his family. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Robert was born August 19, 1925 to James Phillip and Gladys E. (Stewart) Saunders. Robert was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific for three years. He was a retired 60 year member of I.B.E.W. Local Union 124. Robert enjoyed all the activities of the union and was a member of Jim Dandy’s Square Dance club. He was also a member of the Ararat Shrine and a Mason. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary E. (Tarlton) Saunders; daughters Sharon Williamson and husband Terry and Pam Lavish; son Robert Saunders II; one brother; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family expresses gratitude to the special staff at Kansas City Hospice.
