

Robert A. Stude, 72, passed away on December 16, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House. Robert was born on September 23, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas to Lawrence W. and Lois Johnson Stude. His younger years were spent on a farm in southwest Colorado, and also periods in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Texas, graduating from high school at Paschal High in Ft. Worth, Texas. Robert served as a Non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1963 from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1979. Robert was married to Jackie M. Lewis on September 5, 1958. After graduation from college, they moved to Overland Park, Kansas where for five years he was a structural engineer for HNTB. In 1968, Robert was one of the founding partners of the civil and structural engineering firm of Boyd, Brown, Stude and Cambern in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1995, they merged the firm with two other firms to create the TranSystems Corporation, a firm to specialize in all facets of Transportation. Robert then served as the Market Sector Leader for the Automobile and Trucking Sector, and was the Principal-in-charge of development and design of building projects in many states. He retired in 2007. Robert was a Registered Professional Engineer in 12 states, a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, a member and past Missouri Chapter President of the American Concrete Institute, and a member and past Post President of the Greater Kansas City Post of the Society of American Military Engineers. Robert is survived by his wife Jackie, his daughter Rene’ Shanahan and her husband Mike of Overland Park, Kansas, his grandsons Alex Shanahan and Preston Shanahan of Overland Park, his son Cecil Stude of Shawnee, Kansas, son Trent Stude of Overland Park, Kansas, sister Flora Kirk of Sante Fe, NM, sister Norma Wagner of Olympia, WA, and nieces Dina, Carrie, Sheila and nephews Robert and D’Wyane. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Darrell Stude of Ft. Worth, Texas, a niece Sheryl and a nephew Jeff. Robert was a member of the Leawood Baptist Church, where he has served in many capacities including Royal Ambassador Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Chair of a Building Committee, Chair of the Property Committee, Sunday School Department Director, Chair of the Deacon Board, and Church Moderator. He was involved in many civic organizations. He was a member of the Overland Park Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed coaching both his sons in baseball and basketball teams. He served as commissioner and president of the Eight-Eleven Baseball League. After retirement, he became a certified volunteer ombudsman for the State of Kansas and was assigned to Delmar Gardens of Overland Park. He and his wife were also trained and served on the Kansas-Nebraska Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Feeding Team. Visitation will be at Leawood Baptist Church, 8200 State Line Road, on Sunday, December 19th from 4:00-6:00 pm. Funeral service to be held at the Leawood Baptist Church on Monday, December 20th at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS.
