Roberta L. Skannal was born on December 24, 1950, in Chicago, IL to the parents of Robert Johnson and Dorothy Smith. She was preceded in death by both parents Robert Johnson and Dorothy Smith, maternal grandparents Hazel and Ember Floyd and her paternal grandmother Suzzie Watkins.
Roberta's family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1960. She attended Saint Monica Elementary and high school at St Terasa Academy. She attended Rockhurst College and received her bachelor’s degree in business of administration in 1973. She was employed in the insurance business for more than 30 years. Her last employment was at Liberty Mutual Insurance where she retired from on November 28, 2014.
Roberta met her husband Vincent L Skannal, and they married on August 21, 1971. To this union they were blessed with one son Brice Skannal. They celebrated 54-years of marriage.
As a young girl she attended Saint Monica Church in Kansas City, MO. Roberta loved to spend time with her family, especially her nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts when they were around. She loved to travel abroad, and she visit Rome, Londan, Paris, Brazil and many states in the United State. She loved to decorate her house, especially at Christmas, shopping online, and watching documentaries and history shows. She loved going out to eat dinner and learn about different cultures of foods with family. She loved the Motown hits by all the oldies and goodies: Smokey Robinson, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Sade, Michael and Janet Jackson, also she loved house parties and dancing in her younger years. Most of all she loved caring for her mother, uncle and aunt when there was a need.
Roberta leaves to cherish her memory; her husband Vincent L Skannal, son Brice Skannal, daughter-in law, Anasha Skannal, brother Ronald Johnson, brothers and sisters-in-laws: Gregory Skannal (Nicole); Mark, Brian, Darryl Skannal: Chantale Baynham, Denise McCraney, Allison Allen (Greg), and Phyllis Skannal, and two special friends Michelle Vosberg, Deborah Brown and a host of other relatives: nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, located at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, 64131, on December 20, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with a Homegoing Celebration following from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The Committal Service will take place at Mount Moriah Cemetery South from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Repass will be held after the committal at the Funeral Home from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
