Rodger L. Young, affectionately known as "Rod", age 75 of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away October 24th after a long battle with COPD. Rod was born in Kansas City, MO to Willis and Mary Young. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Young.
Rod grew up in Raytown, MO and shortly after graduating from high school enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1962. This was one of his proudest accomplishments. After an honorable discharge, he spent 40 years honing his craft as a sheet metal mechanic for the iconic Trans World Airlines (TWA) and later American Airlines.
Rod had a fondness of airplanes, fast cars, and motorcycles. He spent many years chasing those dreams by learning to fly Cessnas, driving Corvettes and riding Harleys later in life with his buddies, the HoBros. He also enjoyed short visits with his family as he was a man a few words.
Rod is survived by his first cousin, Jana Haven of Lee’s Summit, MO, former spouse, Gayle Young of Kansas City, MO, his son, Gary Young (Jennifer), of Parker, CO, daughter, Stacy Jones (Andy) of Lee’s Summit, MO and 2 granddaughters.
A Graveside Service w/ Military Honors will be held Saturday, November 2nd, 2:00 P.M. at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133.
