
Interment will be at Village Church, Prairie Village, Kansas, in coordination with Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home. There will be a private memorial service in Kansas City for the Houston, TX, and Kansas City branches of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army (give.salvationarmyusa.org).
Rod was born in Kansas City, MO, and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rod and his wife, Ruth Hill, attended Miami of Ohio University. After college, he became a banker and returned to the Kansas City area. He served for many years as president and a director of American Bank in Kansas City, MO.
Rod was active in public service. He served on the Prairie Village, KS, city council in the early 1960s. For many years he served on the board of directors of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, headquartered in Kansas City, and of the Salvation Army of Greater Kansas City. He greatly respected the good that both organizations continue to bring to others.
Rod treasured his family. He and Ruth were married more than 70 years. He coached kids baseball teams. He and Ruth rarely missed the ball games and horse shows of his kids and grandkids. He also loved golf and enjoyed many rounds with family and friends at Mission Hills. Most recently, he was working with his great grandson on his putting.
Rod is survived by Ruth, who continues to live in Kansas City; his son, Jeff Hill and his wife Sarah Lynn (Sivyer) Hill, of Olathe, KS; his daughter Melinda (Hill) Freisleben and her husband Dave Freisleben, of Houston; his granddaughter Linsey (Freisleben) Mitchell, her husband Charles Mitchell and son Charlie, also of Houston; his grandson David Freisleben, of Houston; his grandson Bryan Hill and his wife Katherine (Krause) and their son Louis, of Leawood, KS; and Jordan (Hill) Wagner and her husband Jackson, of Overland Park, KS.
