He was born February 5, 1936, to William (Bill) Brook Calvert and Julia Mae Calvert (Murphy) in Kansas City, Missouri.
Roger graduated from Central High School, Class of 1954. After school, Roger enlisted in the Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1954 to 1957, it was in the army that he met his lifelong friend, Bob (Special Duty) Brown.
After the Army, Roger met and married Joyce Cook on June 7th, 1958. In 1978 Roger and Joyce started a Safety Equipment Company, Day Star Safety. Through the years he was able to employ a substantial number of family members and friends.Roger retired in 1999 and Day Star is still owned and operated by his family. He then moved to Mountain Grove, MO and spent many hours on his tractor, loving his retirement.
Roger made a profession of faith and was baptized September 25, 1983. Roger raised a family of 4, and has 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren with another one on the way. Roger and Joyce celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on June of 2020.
Roger was preceded by his parents, brothers, George, William and Reese Calvert; and his sisters, Ruby Calvert Hill, and Ruth Calvert McGaughey.
Roger is survived by his wife, Joyce Calvert, of Harrisonville, MO; son, Timothy Calvert, of Bolivar, MO; son, Thomas and Laura Calvert, their children, Catherine, Jacqueline, TJ, and Matthew, of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Julie and Brent Blaise, of Pleasant Hill, MO, and their children, Code and Anna Blaise, of Ocala, FL; Cole and Haylie Blaise, of Kansas City, MO; Cailey and Tyler Lea, of Ocala, FL; Cord and Julia Blaise, of Holden, MO; and daughter, Lisa and Larry Jackson, of Knoxville, TN; and their son, Peyton Jackson, of Atlanta, GA. Roger is survived by his sister, Francis Calvert Zeller, of Kansas City, MO; and brothers, John Calvert, of Houston, TX, and Donald Calvert, of Gladstone, MO.
Memorial Service will take place at 5:30pm, Friday, July 17, at Grace and Truth Baptist Church, 400 Cedar Street, Pleasant Hill, MO. A private burial will be held in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Roger and Joyce were very supportive of their granddaughter Catie and her mission and passion to help underprivileged children in our community by providing them the opportunity for a safe and godly education. In 2017 Catie, at the age of 22, started a school in her local church. 2020 saw the completion of their third year.
