Roland Schockweiler passed on October 6, 2026 at the age of 96. He was born on November 23, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Osseo, Minnesota with his brother, Jim. He worked in the local hardware store while he was in high school and would often say he learned everything he needed to know while there. In 1953, he met the love of his life Lois Scott and they married soon after. One month after getting married, Lois was pregnant with their only child, Mary. Lois was in nursing school and Roland worked for the railroad as an agent, later becoming an auditor for Chicago Great Western railway.
One of his great passions was spending time on Round Lake in Minnesota. Everyone who knew Roland also ended up knowing a great deal about Round Lake and his time fishing there. He kept his love of trains throughout his life. He kept trying to tell everyone that if more freight moved on the railways, then there would be less trucks on the road and less wear and tear on the highways. He retired to Olathe in 1986 and enjoyed travel, golf and his granddaughters, Lauren and Ashley. He fully believed in “move it or lose it.” He ran three full marathons and would walk for exercise, even well into his 90s. That probably explains why he lived such a long life! He also had three holes in one and loved playing golf. There was not a sports event on television that he would not watch and he kept close track of the Royals and Chiefs.
Lois passed in 2022 after 69 years of marriage and Roland continued to live in the area. Roland was well loved and had many long-term friends. He is survived by his daughter Mary Beard (Schockweiler) and her husband Phil, two granddaughters, Lauren Klostermann and Ashley Smith, and two great grandchildren, Hudson Klostermann and Ella Smith.
A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am, followed by a visitation with refreshments from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 13 at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145.
