Roma Lorene (Bissing) Stewart, 95, passed away on January 20, 2026. She was born on October 27, 1930, in Hays, Kansas, and made her home in Mission, Kansas with her husband of 61 years and the love of her life, James C. Stewart.
As a teenager, Roma attended beauty school and became a hairstylist — a profession she embraced for more than six decades. She worked well into her 80s, making generations of Kansas City women feel beautiful. She owned a salon on the Country Club Plaza for many years until James built her a Florida-style salon in their home off Shawnee Mission Parkway, where her loyal clients continued to visit.
Roma and James were married on Flag Day, June 14, 1960, and shared 66 happy years together. Roma was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edith Bissing, and siblings Dean, Connie, and Tommy Bissing. She is survived by her husband James; nephew Gary Pointdexter; nieces Lynda Cromwell and Karen (Bill) Baum; nephew Jack (Joliene) Stewart; great-niece Francheska Garrett; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Roma was loved by all. Her quick smile, contagious laugh, and ability to find humor in everyday life made her a joy to be around. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered — especially by James, whose days were always spent side-by-side with her, and who now feels the quiet where she once sat.
