Ron was born in Northbridge, Massachusetts, to Roland and Dorothy Trottier and lived there until about the age of nine. One thing that stayed with him was his strong accent. People often asked if he was from Boston. His family later moved to Sierra Madre, California, where his father ran a machine shop. Ron graduated from Pasadena High School, and always loved watching the Rose Parade.
Ron joined the Marines in 1958. He loved being a Marine and serving his country. His service allowed him to travel the world. He had a stack of passports and an even bigger stack of military certifications.
After Ron retired from the military, he moved to Las Vegas, where he met and married Patricia in 1980. They later moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Ron and Pat enjoyed traveling and often took long driving trips to Nevada and California among other destinations.
He loved learning and earned four degrees. He loved to share his knowledge, and he tutored when he was working on his master’s at UNLV. He may have gotten as much from tutoring as the students did.
He loved reading, particularly military history. When the boys were young and would ask a homework question, Grandpa would say, “I have a book on that.” He could hold a conversation on almost any subject.
His birthday was June 14, Flag Day — a fitting and happy coincidence for someone who loved his country and was proud to have served.
He was a collector and was knowledgeable about many things, including stamps and books. He loved to organize everything and would type up and carefully arrange his favorite recipes.
While Ron enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, what brought the biggest smile to his face and the best stories to his lips was always his family.
Toward the end of his life, he did not always feel well or have much energy, but no matter how he felt, he always went out of his way to make things better for Patricia.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Roland and Dorothy Trottier, and his younger brother, Jerry. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Kelly, and her husband, Tim; his grandchildren, Jacob (Jillian), Matthew, Jeffrey, Mercedes, and Ashley (Justin); his great-grandchildren, Karlee, Isabella, Mylah, Hadley, Edward, and Lucas; and his sister, Joanne, and her family.
Ron, Ronald, Grandpa — you will be missed more than words can say.
