Rosemary Aylward

July 19, 1925November 15, 2011

Rosemary Anita Aylward, 86, of Kansas City, MO passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011. The Rosary will be said Sunday, November 20th at 3:00 PM at McGilley Memorial Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO, visitation will follow from 3:30-5:00 PM at the same location. Mass of Resurrection will be held 9:30 AM Monday, November 21st at Christ the King Catholic Church, Kansas City, MO. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Rosemary was born on July 19, 1925 in Kansas City, MO. She attended St. Francis Xavier grade school and Glennon high school. Prior to her marriage she worked at Black and Veech and KCMO Radio Station. On May 20, 1950 she married her beloved husband, Charles L. Aylward, Jr., who survives her.

Rosemary was a truly gracious and elegant lady who always saw the good in people. She was a homemaker and mother who always had a smile, a hug and a kind word for her family and many friends. She made everyone welcome in her home and at her table. Her children always knew they could bring any one home at any time of the day or night and they would be cared for and warmly welcomed. If there was a baby or puppy in the room, that is where you would find Rosemary.

Rosemary was always devoted to her Catholic faith with a special reverence for the Virgin Mary. She always made time to say her Daily Novenas. Rosemary led her family with love and by example; always reminding her children if it was a Holy Day of Obligation or if there was something they “ought to be doing...or not doing”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Francis and Adeline Hughes.

Her surviving family includes Chuck, her devoted husband of 61 years; her sister and brother in law, Kathleen and Bob Modrcin, of Sarasota FL; her brother and sister in law, Bob and Bernie Hughes, of Kansas City, MO; her brother and sister in law, Jerry and Pat Hughes of Woodville, TX. Her sister in law and brother in law, Jean and Bill Dunn of Prairie Village, KS; her brother in law and sister in law, Bob and Brenda Aylward of Overland Park, KS and her sister in law Gwen Aylward of Prairie Village, KS.

Rosemary is also survived by her seven children and their spouses who all live in the Kansas City area, Patti Aylward Kalb and Mark Kalb; Debbie and Joe Ismert; Peggy and Doug Hasty; Marci Aylward and John Carroll; Jan Aylward Burrus and Jay Burrus; Jeana and Matt Ismert; Chuck and Kathleen Aylward and her 37 grandchildren and 20, and counting, great-grandchildren. I am so sorry to hear of your loss; I only heard of it "through the grapevine" over the Thanksgiving holiday. I had the privelege of knowing Rosemary only briefly, but have always admired her. We have been keeping her and her family in our prayers. Let us know how or if we may help you and yours.

God bless all of you.

I am so sorry. I just found out tonight. What a wonderful woman Rosemary is and what a mark she made on the world. Chuck, I am so glad I ran into Rosemary and you at Youngs a short time back. Her beautiful smile and the remembered stories of my mom and dad. Chuck, you and your family are in my prayers. Rosemary now walks always beside you, may you forever feel her loving arms enfolding you. With love, Michele

My dear cousins-viewing these photos of the life of your mother and father made me realize what an extraordinary story their life told-one of total, selfless giving right to the end. My loviest Aunt Rosemary was always a little jewel in my heart and will forever be. I wish I could have been there to give her one last kiss but I know all of you did that for me. My prayers are with you and I know our Blessed Mother is watching over each of you as she is with your mother now. Eternal repose for her and my love to all of you.
Your cousin, Christine (Hughes) Burnham
