Rosemary (Flanigan) Carter passed away at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri on April 16, 2021. Rosemary was born in Kansas City where she lived for most of her life. After graduating from High School, she married Michael Carter and had two daughters, Bridget and Hannah. She started working at the Jackson County Courthouse in 1972 until she retired in 2015. She had many passions in life and one of them was her love for animals, especially cats. She rescued many cats in her lifetime and gave them good homes.
Rosemary was a kind-hearted and independent woman who enjoyed being surrounded by family. She loved a good laugh and was always quick with a comeback. On the holidays, she enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved shopping and going out with her sister, Mary. They were constant companions. She also enjoyed going to dinner at Hannah’s on Sunday and her favorite meal to have was Guinness Irish Stew. She enjoyed her Fridays with Bridget and sitting at the gazebo reminiscing about good times and sharing a laugh. She loved playing cards with her neighbors at Dogwood Springs Senior Living Community.
She enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, reading books, shopping on HSN or QVC. She especially loved kitchen gadgets and has probably had every appliance at one time or another. She was a constant joy to her family and friends and she will be deeply missed.
Rosemary is preceded in death by her father, James J. Flanigan, her mother, Weda M. Flanigan, her brother Jimmy Flanigan and her sister, Patricia A. Flanigan. She is survived by her brothers, Jeremiah Flanigan, Michael Flanigan, Dennis Flanigan, her sister, Mary Giese, her two daughters, Bridget Bell and Hannah Sifuentes, her grandchildren, Preston Bell, Sydney Bell, Gabriella Sifuentes, Olivia Sifuentes, Brooklyn Reever, great grandson, Devereaux Peuster and her two cats Chucky (aptly named) and Mikey.
Celebration of Rosemary Carter’s Life will be held at McGilley State Line Chapel on April 23, 2021. Family will arrive at 4:30 with the Celebration of Life to begin at 5:00 p.m. Deacon David will be officiating.
In memory of Rosemary Carter, contributions can be made to the Animal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
Remembered Joy
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
