Roy L. Thornton, 85, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017. A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the McGilley State Line Chapel with a Celebration of Life starting at 2 p.m.; burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Roy was born July 26, 1932 in KCMO. He graduated from Northeast High School and from Pittsburg State University. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Margye McLaughlin on May 3, 1957 in KCMO. Roy started working in the construction products industry in 1957 and later established his own firm, Sunshine Industrial Inc., in Merriam, KS. Roy was an aviation enthusiast & historian, a pilot, and one time president of the KC Aerobatic Club. Hobbies included painting and restoration of antique cars.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margye Thornton; a son, Thomas Thornton; a daughter, Terry Thornton; and two grandchildren: Nathan and Malory Thornton.
