

Ruth Louise (Derrick) Kaufman, age 89, of Overland Park, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at KC Hospice House. Ruth was born April 30, 1926 in Hiawatha, KS. She married her high school sweetheart, Martin William Kaufman in 1948, and soon moved to Kansas City, MO where he worked at Black and Veatch. Ruth was a wonderful and loving mother and wife. She and Mart raised four daughters. She was a great cook, gardener, piano player, music lover, seamstress, reader, and card player. After being employed for many years doing secretarial work at GSA, she retired and found more time to have fun with her grandchildren and to travel with her husband. Over the decades she was a member at St. Peter’s, St. Thomas More and Nativity Catholic Churches. She had many dear friends from past neighborhoods, as well as new friends at her most recent home at Silvercrest Senior Living Community.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Martin Kaufman in 2002, and sisters Norma Kroh and Joan Schureman. She is survived by daughters Joan Sherwood and her husband Hal, Joy Bower and her husband Bruce, Ann Thomas and her husband Whitney, and Susan Kaufman, grandchildren John Sherwood and wife Amy, Brian Sherwood and wife Tessa, Steven Bower and wife Rachael, Curt Bower, Mark Bower, Doug Thomas and Katie Thomas, and three great grandchildren.
