Dear Lopez Family I was so saddened to read of your mother's passing. She truly was an angel of mercy. You may or may not remember this you were all very young at the time.
My family had to vacate our home in the Argentine district of K.C.K. when the devastating flood of July 1951 happened. Our home was almost completely destroyed .
We had no where to go. Your wonderful parents opened their basement and allowed us to live there for about a year.. It took just about that long for the American Red Cross to get our house back on it's foundation and make it livable again. The day of the flood when people started evacuating my mother did not want to leave our home. My older brother and father finally forced us to leave. We had nothing with us except the clothes on our backs. We did have a very few other things with us when we went to spend the night with some friends on the night of the flood. We left those few things in the car thinking we would retrieve them in the morning. Well morning came and we found that someone had broken in our car and stolen the few things we had left in it.
My parents had no money. Our home was gone . My father worked at the ice house in Argentine and it was under the flood waters as well so he was without a job as well.
My parents names were Jesus and Margarita Rios. My sisters Mary and Lupe and my brothers Donald and Manuel all lived in your basement in your home. It was a small home right next to that little store on the corner. Do you remember that home? My sisters and brothers ranged in age from 6 to 17 . I was 10. I remember your father had a printing press in part of the basement. I don't remember exactly what he printed but he was so patient with us. Manuel you and your brothers were so little. Your parents were there when we needed help so badly.. My parents were so grateful .
Our condolences and prayers are with you and your family.
With love and friendship, Juanita Rios

My condolences to my cousins, Manuel, Erie, Ricardo, Eddy and Mark and to all her extended families. May God hold you tight with His loving comforting arms, while you go through your grief, of losing a beautiful, caring, loving and the sweetest Mother, Aunt, Sister and Grandmother, that she was.
I loved her so much! I loved to hear her laugh and it will be forever in my heart. I remember as a young girl as I would see her big smile as I entered her store and I would buy my favorite candy, and seeing my cousins there as well. That part of my life, will always stay with me.
Rest In Peace, Tia! I am going to miss you so!
