

Ruth A. Swearingen, 92 of Lee’s Summit, passed away November 2, 2016. Ruth was born September 21, 1924 in Milwaukee, WI the daughter of Irving and Alice Mielenz. Her father was a Methodist minister, who moved every 5 years. Ruth graduated from Fall River High School and played in the school band. She attended Wisconsin School of Business in Madison for 2 years while working at various defense plants during the War. While Ruth was in Madison she met the love of her life, Bob, who was stationed there in the Air Force. They were married by Ruth’s father in Lowell, WI in 1946 and shared 67 wonderful years together before his passing on September 7, 2014. They were charter members of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Independence, MO. Ruth sang in the choir for 53 years and had various jobs with children’s groups and the Methodist Women. Her youth group was responsible for installing the only stained glass window in the church. Ruth had a long career as a Secretary in the Kansas City school district. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Florence Lohman. Survivors include her two sons, Stephen (Connie) and David Swearingen; two grandchildren, Courtney (Evan) Polly and Jacob Swearingen and three great grandchildren, Owen and Emma Polly and Colin Swearingen. Visitation will be Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 11 am until service time at 12 pm at St. Paul United Methodist Church of Independence 3601 S. Sterling Ave, Independence, MO 64052.
