Ruth P. Young

Ruth P. Young, 87, of Overland Park, KS, passed June 3, 2011. A celebration of her life and memorial will be held at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd., Kansas City, MO at 2p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2011. She was born August 19, 1923, in Beagle, Kansas, the daughter of John V. and Pansey A. Shoemaker. Ruth grew up the only girl in a loving household with six brothers. Sadly brothers Earl Shoemaker, Hugh Shoemaker, Billy Shoemaker, Leo Shoemaker, Johnnie Shoemaker and Clifford Shoemaker all preceded her in death.

As a young woman, Ruth and Elmore B. Young, both from Miami County, KS, were married in San Diego, CA. They were married 64 years until Elmore's death in 2005 at the age of 82. Together they had five children.

Ruth loved being a homemaker and was also an avid sewer and quilter. She was an active young girl and loved to roller skate and go bowling. Up to just before her passing she bowled four times a week and would thrill at scoring higher than most of the younger people in her leagues. She'd often travel to national bowling competitions. Ruth always appreciated meeting and becoming lifelong friends with those she bowled with. She designed and custom made bowling ball holders and would spend hours designing each of the unique new ones she'd make by hand. She played the sousaphone in the school band and organ in her church and loved classical music.

She loved life, her family and grandchildren, she was kind and loving and would go out of her way to help others and was a devout Christian. She was always busy, growing the most beautiful violets, knitting stocking caps, sewing and making quilts, painting and she seemed to have boundless energy. She marveled at the wonders of Mother Nature and loved driving trips with Elmore where they explored for countless hours the many sights they would encounter. Anyone who ever knew Ruth, will sincerely mourn the passing of such a great spirit, she will surely live on in her family and friends hearts forever.

Ruth is survived by her children Patricia Hambel, her husband Jon, and their children Shannon, Shawn and Shilo; by her son Miller Eugene Young; by her daughter Nora Beth Wilson and her son Troy Alexander; by her daughter Gail Lee Fuchs, her husband Richard C. Fuchs II, and their sons Richard Charles Christian III and Cody Lee Justin; by her son Paul Clinton Young, his wife Patricia, and his son Jake and scores of her brothers families descendants.
