Our community sadly lost a shining example of kindness and compassion on February 23, 2023, when Sally Isham Stackhouse, age 80, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away at the Lamar Court Assisted Living Community.
Sally, a trained physical therapist, spent the greater part of her career working with Dr. Mani M. Mani, Medical Director of the Gene and Barbara Burnett Burn Center at KU Medical Center, to establish protocols for optimum contemporary burn care that would become the standard of care utilized across the state of Kansas. She then moved on to Home Health Services and volunteer work with Meals on Wheels until her retirement.
A horseback riding enthusiast and avid pet lover, Sally was a fierce advocate for No-Kill animal shelters and opened her doors to a legion of needy pets including cats, dogs, horses, hamsters, gerbils, fish and even a small alligator that lived in her college dorm room. There was no challenge too great for Sally when it came to caring for the sick or needy. When her uncle was diagnosed with cancer in the early nineties, instead of allowing him to move back to his home in Long Beach, she moved him into her own home and cared for him herself until he succumbed to the disease months later. Her lifelong commitment to her family, friends and her passion for healing will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her two children, Scott and Jennifer, their spouses, Natalie and Adam, and her six grandchildren, whom she was most proud of, Rilee, Tyler, Peyton, Piper, Addison and Mac. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond V. Isham and Patricia Lyman, whom she missed dearly.
