

Sam passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice on March 3, 2015. He was born March 11, 1923, in Independence, MO. He attended William Chrisman High School, served 2½ years in the Army during WWII, and afterward attended Missouri State College in Warrensburg, where he met his beloved wife, Joan Pitman. Sam and Joan have been happily married for 67 years. He was President of Pitman Construction Co. for over 30 years.
Sam was a quiet man of faith. He was a member of Village Presbyterian Church for 50 years and also became a member of Church of the Resurrection. Sam loved to fish and loved going to his home at Lake of the Ozarks. Sam belonged to Indian Hills Country Club for 50 years. He and Joan loved to play golf, and spent many enjoyable winters in Arizona and Florida.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Effie Stockdale, as well as two brothers, Ernie and Robert. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Pitman) Stockdale; his children Teresa (Steve) Berry, Jack (Bette) Stockdale, and Becky (Vern) Peterson; grandchildren: Steven (Sandy) Berry, Michael (Shari) Berry, Tina Berry, Matt Stockdale, Luke (Masha) Stockdale, Katie, Sam, and Tezeta Peterson; 8 great grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Caesar.
Services will be held at Church of the Resurrection (Wesley Chapel) on Friday, March 6, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation and reception will follow at the church with graveside services at Mount Moriah Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145, or Higginsville State School Parents Assoc., 3826 S.
