Sandra Lea Cooper

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on December 24, 2021. Sandra Lea Cooper was born on December 29, 1948 to Robert and Betty Cooper in Kansas City. She was followed in quick succession by Randall, Terry, Tim, David, Barry, Jeff, Kirt and Ben. She treasured her relationships with her brothers, many times serving as their second mother but more importantly their friend. She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1966 and worked in various professions over the course of her life. She retired from Northland Cardiology in 2011. She then acquired her “dream” job at North Kansas City Public Library, where she worked part time for the next few years. Sandy was a lifelong avid reader and lover of trivia. She was a faithful viewer of Jeopardy until the passing of Alex Trebek. It was never the same for her after that, and we are very happy that she finally got to meet him. She was a lively, intelligent, and a funny person who made a friend wherever she went. She was always there to listen and give advice without judgement to any of her friends or family. Our hearts are broken that we will never hear her loving voice again. She was the most amazing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her capacity to unconditionally love her family, especially her children, was limitless. We loved her so very much.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Betty, seven of her brothers; Randall, Terry, Tim, David, Barry, Jeff, Kirt, and her beloved nephew Jeremy.

She is survived by her brother, Ben Cooper; children Melissa Cooper, Chad Wilson (Mary), and Mary Beth Wilson; grandchildren Taylor (DJ), Desiree (Victor), Calum, Amaya, Kenzie, Jillian, Marlo, Chloe, and Camron; great grandchildren Keagan, James, and Olivia; sisters in law Sue Cooper, Debbie Cooper, Barbie Cooper, Barbara Phelps and Patricia Graves; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held on Monday, January 3, at 1:00 pm at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
