Sandra Marie Rodgers

Sandra Marie Rodgers (Sandy Shafer) was born in Kansas City, Missouri on the 21st of April 1950 She died on the 30th of June 2026 from complications of neck surgery. She passed peacefully at her home in Lee's Summit, MO with family members by her side.

Her life journey took her to Kansas, Colorado, Indianapolis, Indiana, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, and Pass Christian, Mississippi.

She worked some time for the dietary team of St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City. In Mississippi she worked for an animal rescue center caring for and nurturing injured animals. Her parents followed her down to Mississippi and Sandy spent time with them enjoying the gulf coast life and cared for them whenever their health slipped. Together they all survived both hurricanes Georges and Katrina. She loved to host family events and share the food, sites and culture of southern life. She loved animals and had many pets throughout her life and had her beloved dog buddy, Qtip, close by her side until the end.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband Bill Rodgers, her parents Iantha A. Shafer and Paul W. Shafer, her brother Paul E. Shafer, and brother-in-law Dale Hansen.

Sandy is survived by her partner, Norman Shands, and brothers Ron Shafer (Irma), Rick Shafer (Gretchen), and Phil Shafer (Michelle), and sisters Jean Gately (Jim) and Teresa Hansen. She is survived by her children Mike, John, Candice, and Christopher. and several grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

She is now gone from sight but never from our hearts.
