

Sarah was a child when she and her family moved to Kansas City, she remained in the area most of her life. There she met & married the love of her life, Charles H. Schmalz, they were married over 58 years until he passed on April 15, 2004. To be close to her daughter, she spent the last 17 months in a senior facility in the St. Louis area.
Sarah participated in choir and orchestra while at Southeast High School. She sang in church choirs her entire life. Sarah was active in women’s clubs at church, PTA and Cub Scouts. Sarah was very passionate about her faith, building better race relations and being very supportive of her children in many sports, schools and church activities.
Sarah attended Kansas City University, now UMKC. She worked for Western Union, the Kansas City and Center School Districts, and retired from the U. S. Postal Service.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her stepson Charles “Sonny”, her brother Bob and granddaughter Melinda.
Sarah is survived by four children: Jan F. Schmalz (Sharon) of Overland Park, KS, Olivia Ann Hartung (James) of Ballwin, MO, David L. Schmalz (Kathy) of Kansas City, MO and stepdaughter, Lena Rosser of Raytown, MO. She is also survived by a brother, Charles L. Wray of Voluntown, CT.
Sarah leaves four grandchildren: Brian C. Schmalz of Leawood, KS, Rebecca May of Olathe, KS, Carrie Titus of Eureka, MO and Annette Rosser of Kansas City, MO. Sarah also had eleven great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful and compassionate staff at Bethesda Meadow in Ballwin, MO.
