Sharon Kay Wentz, age 79, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Sharon was born November 3, 1942 in Kansas City to Roland and Elsie Neaves. She graduated from Raytown High School in 1960. She was married in 1961 to Gary Wentz; the couple had two children, Gary and Kellie. After life took them in separate directions, Sharon and Gary remarried in 1988 on the island of Kauai with their family present.
In her career, Sharon worked as an administrative assistant in a variety of fields, including civil services, the Air Force, a federal prison, and the pharmaceutical industry. She was very organized, possessing both a strong work ethic and an optimistic outlook.
Sharon was creative, funny, and nurturing. In her spare time, she loved to crochet, cook, and travel. She was an animal lover and cared for a variety of pets throughout her lifetime. She was a proud Navy wife and Air Force mom. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was very active in her church.
Most of all, Sharon will be remembered for her joyful smile and her time spent as a great mom and a wonderful friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary G.; her son, Gary C.; her parents Roland and Elsie Neaves; her sister, Carol Jones; and her brother, Larry Neaves. She is survived by her daughter Kellie; nephews Todd and Tim Neaves; brother-in-law Steve Jones and his wife Kathryn; and sister-in-law Patricia Neaves.
Sharon’s family would like to thank the friends, family, medical teams who provided Sharon’s care in the last month of her life. Because of their support, Sharon was able to spend her last days in happiness and peace, just like she wanted.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church (brpcraytown.org), 6429 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO; the service will be co-officiated by Rev. Melissa Potts-Bowers and Rev. Elizabeth Meador, with a private family burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Kansas City Parents of Murdered Children (kcpomc.com), Corey’s Network (coreysnetwork.org), Kansas City Hospice House (kchospice.org), or another organization of your choice.
