It is with great sadness that the family of Sheila Lee Johnson announces her passing on October 10, 2019 at Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous battle over the last few years of her life with her health.
Sheila was born October 31, 1943 in Nodaway County, Missouri. She was the eldest of five children for Minnie and Bill Walden. She was raised in Kansas City and graduated from Southeast High School. Sheila was married to Larry on November 1, 1980. They moved to Denver, Colorado where they resided for 16 years. In 1997, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas and lived there until moving to Lenexa, Kansas in August of this year.
Sheila was blessed with a wonderful talent of creating beautiful things with her hands. Quilting, sewing, cross-stitch and more. She won a first-place blue ribbon for a decorated jean jacket she made while living in Ft. Worth. She loved to cook and was always in charge of making the most delicious dressing for our large family Thanksgiving dinner every year. Sheila was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies. Gone with the Wind was one of her favorites. She also loved traveling, specifically taking cruises and going for long drives through the mountains. Sheila loved to spend time shopping and giving to others. Though many of her gifts were crafted by her own beautifully skilled hands, others were purchased with careful consideration of each individual’s preferences and passions.
Sheila will be lovingly remembered by her children, Christine Whitney (husband Jim), Linda Everett (husband Steve) and Thomas Carter (wife Humble); and Larry’s daughter Kellie Battaglia (husband Tom). She will also be fondly remembered by her sisters, 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Sheila was preceded in death by her beloved husband and partner in life, Lawrence Johnson; her parents, William Turner Walden and Minnie Thurman Walden; and brothers William Raymond Walden and Jerry Duane Walden. She is also survived by her feline friend Pickles.
