Sheryll Jean Michael

Sheryll Michael (Thomas), 81, passed away on July 12th, 2026. Sheryll was born on January 19th, 1945, in Marysville, Kansas to Orville and Ila Thomas (Fletcher). She graduated from Blue Rapids High School in 1963. Sheryll married Donald Michael, a Kansas City Firefighter, in 1962. After moving to Kansas City, the couple welcomed 2 children into their home, in 1963 and 1964. Then later divorced. Her children remember her as a loving and generous mother who encouraged them to be themselves. She was a generous and compassionate individual who loved going to the lake, which she called her “Happy Place”, and who helped others as she could. She worked at Montgomery Ward for many years and Sears and The Kansas City Star.

Sheryll is preceded in death by her long-time companion Dean Morris, her parents, Orville Thomas and Ila Thomas (Fletcher), her younger sister Joyce Flemming (Thomas) and Son-In-Law John Franks IV.

Sheryll is survived by her children, Dawna Franks (Michael) and James Michael, and her sister, Darlene Haller (Thomas) and Melvin Haller, Nephew Ryan Haller and Mary, nieces Lindsay Thomas, Emilie Haller and Rachelle Haller, brother-in-Law Larry Flemming and her dog Remington (Remmy).

The family would like to thank doctors and nurses at North Kansas City Hospital and Northland Hospice care for taking care of Sheryll in her time of need.
