Shirley Marion Broyles, 84, passed away on December 4, 2015. A visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 11th, from 6-8 pm at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, in Kansas City, MO. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, December 12th, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, located at 16808 Holmes Road, Loch Lloyd, MO.
Shirley was born August 17, 1931, in Washington, D.C. She was the first of two daughters of Frank and Frances Seaton. Shirley devoted her life to being a mother to her three sons, but also displayed a remarkable talent as a craftsperson. She created beautiful works of art with needlepoint, macramé, crochet, knitting, and decoupage. Shirley even dabbled in photography, and took a memorable photo tour of the Bridges of Madison County.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 51 years, Willard Broyles. Shirley is survived by her three sons, Pat and his wife Glory of Fort Walton Beach, FL; Mike and his wife Ginger of Kansas City; and Tom of Kansas City. She adored her five grandchildren: Blake and his wife Cathy, Jennifer, Tommy, Sarah, and Katie, and her great-grandson, Benjamin. She is also survived by her sister and best friend Margie Elkins, and her husband Jim, of Cape Coral, Florida.
One of Shirley’s favorite phrases that elegantly summed up her attitude about life was: "Yesterday is History, Tomorrow a Mystery, Today is a Gift, That’s why it's called the Present."
