

She was born to the late Ella and Orlis Hand in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the proud wife of Wray “Samuel Wray” Burris and together they owned a family business in Waldo, Bledsoe’s Rental on Wornall Road. Shirley was a stay at home mother who worked diligently to raise their three children. Shirley could always be seen wearing her beloved blue shirts and drinking a Coca-Cola. Shirley was a sophisticated woman who enjoyed antiques, Elvis Presley, and Chanel No. 5. Shirley was a lover of thoroughbred horse racing, a passion her and Wray shared together.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Wray Burris. She is survived by son, Brad (Kim) Burris; daughter, Susan Burris; son, Michael (Shelby) Burris; granddaughters, Lael Goetzman, Drew Richardson, and Sage Burris; great-grandson. She was a devoted wife and mother, who deeply loved her children and grandchildren. She also adored their Shih Tzu, Coco. The families’ happiest memories are sitting in the Burris living room celebrating family gatherings while drinking their iced teas and sharing Shirley’s iconic relish tray. Memories like these are the ones the family will cherish forever.
A Visitation will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, located at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri, 64131. The visitation is scheduled for November 24, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
