

Shirley Mae (Brock) Goben, born May 24, 1919 in Burlington, KS passed away August 3, 2015 at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, MO. Shirley was survived by her daughter Dianne Sowerby and son-in-law, Skip Sowerby, her eight grandchildren and their spouses: Patty Nelson, Mark Nelson, Michael McGrew, Sharon McGrew, Cathy McGrew, Cyndi Gardner, Tim Gardner, Rick McGrew, Tamera McGrew, Susan Sowerby, Patrick Sowerby, Cheryl Sowerby, Jimmy Sowerby, Denise Sowerby.
Shirley also had six great grandchildren: Stephanie Dark, Aaron McGrew, Christy McGrew, Ashley Palmer, Whitney Palmer and Bailey McGrew and four great, great grandchildren: Bryce Sowerby, Sammy Sowerby, Ross Sowerby and Colby Dark.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Frank Brock and John Goben, her daughters Judy McGrew and Nancy Brock, and her two grandchildren, Scott McGrew and Madison McGrew.
Shirley had a great love of music, tennis and Cubbies baseball. She was an avid reader and could often be found reading her books and listening to her music. She always knew where to find the baseball game, football game, tennis match or any sporting event. Every weekday she would watch Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Jeopardy. She loved playing cards, especially Bridge. She was always ready for a good game of Hearts or Spades and loved teaching her great grandson, Bryce, how to play these games. They would often times sit and play Cribbage. For many years she and her daughter Judy would do the crossword puzzle in the newspaper every morning.
Throughout her life, Shirley lived in many places across the world. She lived in Alaska, Japan, Australia, Florida, Kansas and Missouri and finally settled in Missouri in the 80’s. For the last 20+ years, she lived with her daughter Dianne and son-in-law Skip, in Blue Springs, MO.
