She was born October 4, 1933 in Clinton, MO to her parents, Estel and Evelyn Clary. Shirley retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield – Kansas City as an Administrative Assistant. She was active in church, particularly choir and the Mid-America Episcopal Movement. She learned guitar in her 40’s and enjoyed playing. Shirley was a beloved member of the Kingdom of Calontir in the Society for Creative Anachronisms for 36 years where she was known as Finola O’Clary. She was granted the title of Baroness and was more preciously known as the Fyrd Mom or just plain “Mom” to hundreds.
She read to her children and grandchildren and taught them to love God, the country, animals, and science. She fed the hungry, clothed the naked, gave drink to the thirsty, and cherished the newcomer.
Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard C. Gaulke and her second husband, Lyle M. Hanson.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice; son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Lenny; and grandson, Christopher.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM on Saturday, April 24, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133. Burial will immediately follow also at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery.
