Shirley Jean Lawrence, 85, of South Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Shirley was born on July 29, 1928 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She was the daughter of Sherman and Inez (Benjamin) Newton.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. A private burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Shirley liked shopping, collecting all things brass and enjoyed her glass figurines. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Herbert Lawrence, Jr. on February 5, 2000, and a granddaughter, Tracy. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her children, Linda Lawrence and partner, Nancy Welch, Gary Lawrence and partner Diane Berg, William “Bill” Kohl and wife Nancy, daughter-in-law, Brenda Lawrence, and brother, Sherman P. Newton, Jr. and wife Sandra, grandchildren, Tiffany, Trevor, Grant and Brittney and great grandchildren, Jesse and Brooke.
