She grew up in Cawker City, Kansas. She would return to Simpson, Kansas to spend her summers at her best friend's farm.
She graduated from Westport High School in 1951. She continued her education at UMKC which provided her an opportunity to work for multiple departments of the US Government throughout her life.
In her youth she took a aviation program and had dreams of becoming a pilot. She loved to paint, sew, and bake to pass the time and share with family. She was renowned for her holiday dinners and hosting family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVerne C. Krenkel and Ruth Krenkel; her husband, Charles "Stan" Reid; her brother, Donald Krenkel; and her son, Brian Charles Reid; and her niece Shannon Weldon.
She is survived by her son Darrin Reid (Juli); her grandchildren, Rachel Phillips (Michael), Samantha Reid, and Alexander Reid; and her nieces Sharol Wilcoxen (Marc), and Liza Weldon.
A celebration of life for Shirley will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Following the celebration of life will be a committal service Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
