In lieu of flowers, Shirley asked that donations be made in her memory to the MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue (www.adoptaboston.com).
Shirley lived a long and meaningful life defined by kindness, strength, and devotion to her family and faith. She spent the entirety of her 38-year career as a designer at Hallmark Cards. Shirley loved the Lord and was very active in church throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and relaxing at her lake house—especially when she could be out fishing or on the boat. She also loved to square dance, bringing joy and laughter wherever she went. She had such warmth and kindness about her and never knew a stranger. Shirley had a special place in her heart for Boston Terriers, and many lucky pups were blessed to have been loved and cared for by her. In the latter part of her life, she found joy in serving as part of the Angels on a Mission ministry at Colony Church.
She is survived by her husband of nearly ten years, Velorn Simmons; her daughter, Skyla Faye Walters, and husband, Harley Walters; granddaughter, Skyla Rene’ Anders; grandson, Jeffery Haskew, and wife, Jessica Haskew; and great-grandchildren, Christian Bowman, Lily Bowman, John Knowles, Timothy Knowles, and Clementine Haskew. She also leaves behind countless friends who were blessed to have known her and to have shared in the love she so freely gave throughout her life.
