She was born in Kansas City, MO, to James Richard (Dick) Hankins and Ruth Hesseltine (Montgomery) Hankins on May 26, 1949. The family moved to Raytown, MO, and Sondra graduated from Raytown South High School in 1967.
After high school, Sondra attended Baker University in Baldwin, KS. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, graduating in the spring of 1971.
While attending Baker University, she met her husband, Ernest (Bud) Hull of Wellsville, KS. The two were married July 3rd, 1971, at Countryside United Methodist Church in Kansas City, MO. They honeymooned in Cherokee Village, Arkansas and have shared 47 blissful years as husband and wife.
The happy couple settled in Raytown, Missouri. They both began teaching in the Raytown School District. Sondra at Pittman Junior High and Bud at Raytown Junior High.
After several years of teaching, Sondra took a break from work to start a family. They were blessed with two sons. Ryan was born in 1976 and Jason followed in 1979.
A return to education was made as a Library Assistant at Southwood Elementary School before becoming the Library Assistant at her alma mater, Raytown South High School. She obtained Post-Graduate Degrees from Central Missouri State University, a Master's Degree in History and Education, and a Specialist Degree in Library Science. Sondra served Raytown South High School for many years and ultimately progressed to Head Librarian. Under Sondra's direction, Raytown South High School was awarded the Outstanding Media Program Award by the Greater Kansas City Association of School Librarians in 1997. She retired in 2005.
Sondra was an avid gardener who loved to grow flowers and vegetables, both at home and at the Hankins "Farm" in Ray County, MO. Her home was easily identifiable by the beautiful plants and flowers growing there.
She was a great lover of books, a prodigious reader continuously seeking to learn... She shared her love of reading with her children and grandchildren. Sondra enjoyed her church book club and was a member of the "Catalog Girls"; a group of retired librarians. The Girls' meet-ups were a great place to discuss books, library adventures, and life!
For nearly six decades, Sondra was a devoted member of One Spirit United Methodist Church, formerly Countryside United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served several terms as president of the church's UMW group.
Sondra was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing In the church choir. She played several musical instruments; her favorite being the flute. She also played the piccolo, piano, and guitar.
Her family was blessed with a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. With the boys she threw backyard touchdowns, saw their latest model train creations and took them to innumerable games and practices. With her daughters-in-law and a granddaughter, she liked to share "girly stuff" such as cooking, baking, pretty clothes, and the Hallmark Channel. With the two grandsons she was on familiar ground with Legos, video games, and discussing various carnivorous animals.
Sondra is survived by her husband, Bud; sons: Ryan and Jason; daughters-in-law: Adriana and Janna and grandchildren: Isabella (Izzy), Patrick, and Cayden.
Many will recall her beautiful smile, glittering blue eyes, sincere love and friendliness.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
