Sophia Luise Koster
August 18, 1928 – May 18, 2018
With her husband of nearly 65 years, and her daughter and son at her side, and having received the final sacraments at the consecrated hands of her grandson, Sophia Luise Koster left this life for the next on May 18th, 2018.
Luise was born in Oberndorf, Germany on August 18th, 1928. She was the third of five children born to Karl and Luise Maier. The family relocated several times before and during World War II eventually moving to Ulm. After the war, she attended the University of Munich and Interpreters School. She returned home to Ulm in the early 50’s and went to work at a nearby U.S. Army Base. She soon met John Frederick Koster, a U.S. Army soldier from Kansas City. Fred and Luise married on June 30, 1953 before he shipped back to the U.S. Other than two years in Manhattan, KS with her new husband while he finished his college degree, she spent the rest of her life in the Kansas City area, the last 52 years in Independence. She worked at Commerce Bank, Western Electric, the IRS and retired from the USDA, having taken time off to raise her three children.
Luise was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Franz, Gebhard and Hans, and a daughter Susan. She is survived by her husband Fred, son Kevin (Judy), and daughter Karen, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her sister Peggy Meachum, and one niece and two nephews.
