Stanley E. Romi, or “Stan the Man” as he was often known, was born on July 30, 1945 in Kansas City to Louie and Bertha Romi. He lived a good life, worked hard, played hard and made an impact on all who knew him. He passed from this earth on October 23, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; his parents, Louie and Bertha; his brother, Bob; brother-in-law Bob Winslow; his parents-in-law, Junior and Margie Clark and sister-in-law Delpha Spalding.
He is survived by, his devoted daughter Kim; his sister, Betty Winslow; brothers, Fritz (Dinah), Lester (Maxine), Kenny (Judy), Harold (Anna Marie), Tom (Frankie); sister-in-law Martha Romi; brother-in-law Richard Clark, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, adopted family and friends.
Stan attended Southeast High School, where he met many lifelong friends and had his fair share of adventures. These years resulted in legendary stories told over time, much to the disbelief of those hearing them. He was always a good storyteller and enjoyed seeing how people reacted to his tales. Stan was in the US Army in 1966.
Stan married Wanda Lee Clark in 1971. Together, they raised their daughter, Kim and helped raise multiple other kids who came around and stayed. They enjoyed a life filled with love, memories, laughs and wild times. In recent years, Stan was a devoted caregiver to Wanda until her passing in 2019.
Stan was a hard worker and expected his employees to be the same. He started in the construction industry with Frank Flynn Construction, worked for H. B. Raymond & Leath & Sons Trenching, Inc. He settled at Garney Construction Co. with a successful career as an admired & well-respected Superintendent until his retirement in 2009.
Stan was the best stand-in, fill-in the gap dad, uncle, brother or grandpa for anyone who needed him to be. His door was always open to family, friends & strays. He was highly entertained by playing practical jokes on the unsuspecting - his famous mask, the shock lighter, snipe hunting & the mongoose just to name a few. Some of his favorite pastimes included deer hunting, fishing, and spending time at his farm; watching his beloved Kansas City Chiefs, playing his Powerball numbers and buying scratchers, taking his grand dog Simba for french fries or tater tots, keeping his yard the best looking in the neighborhood and of course collecting countless trophies at the car shows he & Kim attended with his 1950 Ford truck and the 1964 Chevy Malibu.
Sometimes it was hard for Stanley to get a word in edgewise with the company surrounding him, but when he did interject, it was often to offer quiet support or supply a good laugh. He will be remembered for his smart wit, hearty laugh, loyalty, grit, generosity, sense of humor and love of his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday January 13, 2024 at Faulkner’s Ranch, 10600 Raytown Rd, KCMO, from 11-3. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Stanley’s honor to:
