Stella Lynn Kennedy, 87, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, passed away on May 12, 2026, at Lake Regional Medical Center in Osage Beach. She was born on May 28, 1938, in Dupont, Indiana, the fifth of six children born to George and Anna Browning.
Stella devoted many years of her professional life to serving the United States Government, working across multiple agencies before retiring from the Department of Agriculture. After retirement, she and her husband continued their dedication and work ethic as they managed Stellar Real Estate Company.
More than anything, Stella’s heart lived in the love she had for her family. She nurtured her flowers and plants the same way she nurtured the people she loved — with care, patience, and joy. She delighted in life’s simple comforts: a BLT with crispy bacon, a cold Pepsi, plain Lay’s chips, and a trip to the casino. She also loved scratcher tickets and the little thrill of possibility they brought. These small pleasures never failed to bring her a smile.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Kay, Ken, and Jim; and her sisters, Opal and Emma.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of 57 years, William “Bill” Kennedy; her son, Joe (Patty) Carman; her grandson, Richard; and her granddaughter, Michele (Matt) Walterbach. She also leaves behind six cherished great‑grandchildren who will carry her memory forward with love.
A committal service will be held on Thursday, May 28th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Those attending are asked to gather at the front of the funeral home (the red brick building) prior to the beginning of the service.
