Steve attended Waynesville High School and graduated in 1969. He continued his education at the University of Missouri Rolla and Southwest Baptist University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Christianity and Psychology—an early reflection of the steady faith that would shape his life and the generous spirit with which he approached others.
Steve began his career with United Way before moving into bond and mortgaged backed security trading. After managing the trading desk as a Senior Vice President, he made a meaningful transition to owning and managing a local Christian bookstore, where he especially enjoyed working alongside family employees. Following a brief career change as a data science engineer with a local pharmaceuticals company, Steve retired early.
On December 28th, 1971, Steve married Dianna Ruth Murphy. They began their life together in Saint Joseph, Missouri, and welcomed two children, David and Christy. For 54 and a half years of marriage, Steve’s devotion to Dianna remained constant, marked by steadfast care and a quiet, enduring loyalty that stayed with him even into his final days. With open hands and a willing heart, he gave freely of his time and resources, and the family traveled extensively. He was dedicated to his children’s education in history, respect, and faith, leading by example in the home and beyond.
A voracious reader, Steve was self taught in history, science, and current events. In later years, he developed a skilled talent in charcoal and pencil drawing. Music filled the home and became a gift passed through two generations—songs by the Beatles, The Band, and gospel music, along with the current Top 40 every Sunday morning on the way to church. A devout Christian, Steve volunteered in many aspects of the Church, again giving generously of his time, talent, and resources.
Steve also loved to play and laugh—sometimes in the most inappropriate of situations—yet often bringing a needed lightness and cheer to difficult moments.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, David and Marjorie Link; his brother, David Link; and his sister, Virginia Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 54 and a half years, Dianna Link; his son, David Leslie Link (Jevette); his daughter, Christy Seele (Karl); his grandchildren, Shiloh Elizabeth, Lexington McCartney, David Donald Ernest, Elijah Karl, Emma Elizabeth; and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
