Stephen F. Sharkey, 47 of Raytown, MO passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018. Stephen, "Sharkey" to most everyone who knew him, was born May 22, 1970 to Thomas and Anne (Christie) Sharkey, in Long Beach, California. He was preceded in death by his father and much-loved German Sheppard "Zuess". He is survived by his wife Michele "Chely" Sharkey, his step-children: Andrew Vogler (Amber) and Jake Vogler; step grand-children: Makenna, Alayna and Christina; his mother Anne; brothers: Michael (Roxanna) and Patrick; sisters: Christine (Neil), Kathleen (Carl), and his beloved nieces and nephews: Kate, Megan, Hawley, Molly, Madeline and Jack.
"Sharkey" grew up in Concord, California and attended Ygnacio Valley High School. After High School he attended a technical school for aviation - airline mechanics. As an adult he served as an addiction counselor with Pathfinders of San Diego, "The Freedom Ranch", San Diego, California, which satisfied his overwhelming desire to help others struggling with abuse and addiction. In 2007, he moved to Missouri to assist his sister Chrissie and nieces during a tough time. Once in Missouri, he began working for FedEx Freight as a driver. He enjoyed his job and co-workers very much. Although he missed California and the ocean, he was never without friends and family in Kansas City.
"Sharkey" loved living in Chief's country and rooting for his favorite team the Raiders. He loved playing pool (he swore he could beat anyone in pool), swimming in the pool and hanging out with his friends, of which he had many. He was a big-hearted man, consumed with a desire to help people. There are many who can share a story of how he changed their lives. It is through these countless kindnesses we know that he will not be forgotten.
The "Celebration Of Life" will take place at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO, 64133, May 24, 2018, 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Visitation begins at 6:00 P.M. Service and sharing begin at 7:00 P.M.
