It was an adventurous 96 years and 5 months for ‘stylin’ Miss Susie. Sue Alice Goodson was born in Ravenwood, a small farming community in northwest Missouri on March 21, 1915, and grew up with one sister and four brothers; walked or rode a horse, named Shorty, to the one-room school she attended. As a young woman, Sue came to Kansas City to work as a “nanny” for several years. Then a brother’s illness caused her to travel to Waco, Texas, to help care for him and his young family. At a carnival one evening Sue met a “friendly and pleasant looking” soldier, George Warriner from Troy, New York. They rode the ferris wheel to begin their courtship; ten days later they married on August 6, 1943, just before George was shipped out to the war in Europe. Sue’s life as a military wife took her across America, to occupied Japan after World War II, and Fort Kobbe Panama Canal Zone. When George retired from the Army, they settled back in Kansas City. She had a 15-year career with Leiter’s Designer Fabrics on the Plaza as Order Processing Manager. In her retirement years, Sue volunteered with the Salvation Army. She is survived by her sons Gary (wife Barbara) and Mark Warriner, grandson Brad Warriner (wife Tracy), great-grandchildren Adam and Isabella Sue; and two brothers Charles and Layton Goodson. Sue Alice Warriner passed away August 21, 2011 at Foxwood Springs. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 25, at Foxwood Springs, Bromwell Lounge, 1500 W. Foxwood Drive, Raymore, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fellowship of John, Foxwood Springs Residents Council, P.O. Box 701, Raymore, Missouri 64083. Condolences may be made at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.
