Susan Jane Bailey, 79, Kansas City, MO passed away on Fri, Dec. 9, 2011 at Research Medical Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am on Friday, Dec 16 at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2945 Bales, Kansas City, MO 64128. Visitation will be 9:00–11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ruth Circle Mission, 2945 Bales, Kansas City, MO 64128. Susan was born on April 2, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to William H. and Octavia Thompson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949 and attended Drake Univ. in Des Moines, IA. In 1957, she married Ulysses Bailey. Susan enjoyed a long career in the apparel industry and was a successful Mary Kay representative. A devoted member of her civic and faith community, Susan served as a member of the Cosmic Stars Chapter American Business Women’s Assoc, was chair of the New Era District Choir, member of the Ruth Circle Mission and Second Vice President of the Women’s Missionary Union. Susan was also devoted to her music ministry as she most recently was a pianist and directed the Male Chorus at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses Bailey; parents, William and Octavia Thompson; 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 2 cousins, 1 great-niece; and 1 great-great-niece. She is survived by nephews, Allen Carter, Jr. (Angela) of Houston, TX and Bernard Carter (Lara) of Bloomington, MN; niece, Sandrya Groce of Bloomington, MN; special friend, Hosea Gunnels of Kansas City, MO; and many extended family members and friends.

I will always remember Mrs. Bailey as being a sweet spirit during our rehearsals with the New Era District choir. She will certainly be missed. May God bless her loved ones. She is certainly in a better place now.
