Ms. Reece was born in Clinton, Oklahoma in December of 1924. After attending Oklahoma Women’s College briefly, she met and married Robert E. Reece of Kansas City. She spent several years working in bookkeeping and accounting for various companies before retiring from Meredith Corporation, then owners of KCMO Radio and KCTV-5.
Sybil and Bob spent many happy years together fishing, camping and traveling. Memorable trips were taken to the Black Hills and a grand fishing trip to Canada in the early 1950’s. Many memorable campfires and comradery took place at their lot in Sugar Valley near Mound City, KS in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. After Bob passed, Sybil continued to travel to visit her sisters in Colorado and Texas, and a long wished for trip to Ireland.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Robert E., and sons Robert Donn and Gerald. She is survived by daughter Carolyn Hall, son Keith Reece, and several grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. One of Sybil’s most treasured memories was the gathering of her offspring in 2014 to celebrate her 90th birthday.
A Celebration of Life event will take place later in the year. Interment will be in the Chapel of Hope at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. Sybil was a life-long supporter of the arts and education. The family requests contributions be made in her name to either an arts organization or educational scholarship fund of the donor’s choice
