Sylvia A. Meek, 83, passed away at home on May 23, 2018. The BEST Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother (Big Mimi), left us to soon and will be greatly missed. We know she is back in the arms of the love of her life, Danny, once again. Funeral service will be at 9am Saturday, May 26, at Floral Hills with visitation Friday evening from 6-8pm.
She was the second daughter to Edward J. Donnell and Anna Lorine (Lacey) Donnell, known as Hap & Babe, on Oct. 28, 1934 in Kansas City. She lived her early years there, graduating from SouthEast High School in 1953. She was an active member of the Eastern Star. Engaged her senior year, she married her handsome sailor after graduation and moved to Norfolk, VA. The first of many moves in their adventures in the Navy. Raising 2 daughters with a Husband at sea most of the time was a challenge, but she did it with a stern and loving hand, with every move, making every house a warm and loving home. With Danny in Vietnam, the family moved back to South Kansas City in 1968 and bought their first house. She had worked at several bases part-time, but with both the girls in school, she went to work full-time. First at Richards G, then as a cashier at Ervin Jr High, and cafeteria manager at Ingels Elementary. She retired when the first Grandchild came back from Kentucky. Grandma time! Of course, Danny loved that too.
With Danny close to retirement from Shawnee Mission Schools, they moved to Raymore in late 1988. Again, this home, as many others, provided hours of family gatherings with card games, lawn darts, croquet, Tripoly and picnics. And by family, that was everyone invited. The house was always clean, stocked with home-made food and decorated for every holiday/season!
Her sister, Betty (Bud) Park, passed in 1996 and her great love, Danny, passed away in 2015. She is survived by two daughters: Ann Meek and Karen Weston, of Belton; Granddaughter, Missy (Scott) Wittkopp of Leavenworth, KS; Grandsons: Matthew Weston of Belton and Michael (McKenzie) Weston of Independence; Great Grandsons, Sean Weston of Belton and Maverick Wittkopp of Leavenworth; Great Granddaughter, Ariel Weston of Leavenworth; brother, Ira (Joyce) Donnell, Harrisonville and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank SouthMetro of Raymore and the ER staff at Belton Research Hospital for their hard work and compassion.
