Teresa (Muñoz) Bernal was born on October 15, 1918 to Jośe & Maria (Vasquez) Muñoz. She was surrounded by her family as she began her journey on to eternal life. She passed on September 16, 2015, at age 96, with the music of Kenny Rogers and Freddie Fender playing in the background.
Teresa's life began as her family migrated from Mexico to the United States. Her parents and older siblings arrived in Bisbee, Arizona where she was born, making her the first child in her family to be a U.S. citizen. As a baby, Teresa and her family continued their migration to Kansas City and arrived at Union Station around the time of her first birthday. Teresa remained in the Kansas City area her entire life, spending many years of her life as a resident of the West Side. She spent her early adult life working at Sunshine Biscuit Company.
Teresa married Adolph Bernal on April 27, 1946. After she married, she was a stay at home mom and raised her children and helped to raise many of her grandchildren. She also provided baby-sitting to many.
Teresa joined the Guardian Angels parish in 1968. She participated in many organizations at Guardian Angels, Redemptorist Center and Guadalupe Center's Casa Feliz. Teresa also enjoyed quilting, ceramics, and cooking her families' favorites. There were two times during the day in which you did not interrupt her – during the Price is Right, and Wheel of Fortune. She liked to play bingo and gardening, especially tending to her roses which bordered her front yard. She liked to watch the KC Royals and KU basketball games.
Teresa was proceeded in death by her parents Jośe & Maria Muñoz, her husband Adolph Bernal, three sisters Bartola Lopez, Trini Florez, Si Cirlincuina, two brothers Joe Muñoz & Raymond Muñoz, son-in-law Rick Coates, brothers-in-law Tony Florez, Joe Hernandez and Tom Cirlincuina, and sisters-in-law Tillie Muñoz and Vera Muñoz.
