Terry Rene Brown

Terry grew up in Tulsa, alongside her loving siblings Jeff and Larry. She attended Oklahoma University, where she met the love of her life, John G. Brown. Terry and John were married February 18, 1989. Terry and John moved to Kansas City in 1991 and settled in Lee’s Summit. Terry was the loving mother of Spencer (Morgan), Katie (Hadley) and Alex.

Terry’s greatest love was her family especially being a mother to her 3 children. She was the chef, taxi driver, housecleaner, laundress, scheduler, driving instructor, homework supervisor and biggest fan for all her children, who played competitive sports year round. As her children grew and became adults, she continued to be their biggest cheerleader and became a best friend. She was never one to intrude or overstep but was always there, with a warm loving smile, a hug, a snickerdoodle, a favorite candy and sage advice. Terry made it all look easy. Terry was the heart and soul of her family. Not only was Terry an amazing mother to her own children, all their friends considered her a second mother as well. She adored children. There was not a baby near her that she wasn’t holding and loving.

Terry herself was an incredible athlete. She played many sports – softball, volleyball and was a dynamo pickleball player. She loved having fun and she was very politely competitive. Terry was a big OU Sooners fan and she enjoyed watching all games with her husband and family. She thoroughly enjoyed attending all sporting events.

Terry’s smile was contagious, and she created sunshine for all. She loved being with all her family and playing games. She showed her care and compassion for all. Terry showed her care and compassion by her love for dogs and in the last several years, she enjoyed fostering many. Terry loved traveling, going to the ocean, going to lakes, and skiing. Even when she couldn’t ski the last few years, she loved going to the slopes with her family and waiting to hear about their adventures on the mountain.

Terry was a computer programmer before joining the administrative staff at Holmeswood Baptist Church in 2012. Terry was an active participant in children’s ministry and other programs at the church. She became the face of Holmeswood every day and made sure all members’ needs were met and they felt cared for.

Terry is survived by her loving husband, John. Her children: Spencer and his wife Morgan, Katie and her husband Hadley, and Alex. Her brothers Jeff (Anne) and Larry (Kim). Her sisters-in-law Sharron (Jon) and Denise and her nieces and nephews: Jennifer, Jon, Robert, Sarah, Lauren and many close cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri with visitation at 9:00am. Burial will immediately follow the service at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City MO. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sanctuary Project Fund at Holmeswood Baptist Church.
