Theresa Dishman

November 5, 1927June 15, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Theresa A. Dishman announces her passing at the age of 93 on June 15, 2021 surrounded by her family. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 10-11 am at St. Thomas More Parish, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery immediately following.

Theresa was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, James W. Dishman, and her parents, Patrick and Sabina Maloney, brother Joseph Maloney and sister Mary Ann Cahill. She is survived by her children, Mary (Joel) Johnson, Michael (Geri) Dishman, Peg (Les) Eidson, Jan (George) Morgan, Joan (Bobby) Linville, Jim (Jana) Dishman, her sister Helen Forte, 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Theresa was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Parish. Her faith was unwavering and she showed this in the way she lived her life. Her rosary was her favorite accessory. She was married to Jim for 70 years. They had the most wonderful lifelong love story and were an inspiration to all. And being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother was Theresa’s greatest joy.

Theresa was proud of her Irish heritage and green was her favorite color. She was also known for having “luck of the Irish” at the casino, which was her favorite pastime. Theresa’s favorite Irish blessing was:

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Theresa, was one of my closest and dearest friends and I will miss her greatly. Her faith in Our Lord Jesus, and the Catholic Church was an inspiration to all of us.

Theresa obviously lived a wonderful and successful life by any measure, particularly the one most important to me which was the devotion of her family to her. She was in all respects a very fortunate woman and I know that all of her children will miss her very much. I will remember her in my prayers.

What a fine lady. She was so patient and kind to all us youngsters. The Dishman house was where pretty much all the kids on the block would gather at some point. Especially on Sunday afternoons. Always something goin on. Great memories for us all with a lot of smiles. So sorry for the loss.

Not much more you could ask for.

We were so sorry to hear of Theresa’s passing. She and her husband, Jim, were the epitome of not only what a married couple can be, but of what we all strive for. They loved their family and instilled in them their wonderful values. Theresa was a beautiful, kind, and generous friend who always left you with a smile on your face. They both referred to us as their “East side kids” and that made us feel proud. She and Jim were one and the same, and we know they are back together again in Heaven. Our sincere condolences to their family.

Mom, I already miss your good morning texts and our nightly phone calls. I am not sure what to do with myself without our Saturday beauty days, even though you were already beautiful inside and out. You taught me so much about faith, family and love I will do my best to carry this on.
