

Thomas A. Hartley, Jr., 76, was born September 26, 1938 to Thomas A. Hartley and Quilla Maxine Stallings. He died November 17, 2014, in Prairie Village, Kansas, after suffering many years from Alzheimer’s Disease.
He graduated from Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and earned a baccalaureate degree from the University of Kansas and a master’s from University of Kansas City. He worked for the Kansas City, Missouri School district at Bingham Junior High and later in the district office implementing the use of computers in classrooms. He retired in 1990.
Tom was respected by his colleagues in the district for his knowledge, talents and attitude, liked by his students for a well-run and happy classroom and by friends for his kindness, sense of humor and willingness to share his wisdom.
He was a lifelong member and elder of South-Broadland Presbyterian Church. He had a strong interest in investing and started two investment clubs while at Bingham. He also enjoyed travel with his wife and supporting KU and Kansas City sports teams.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Meredith and her husband Jeremiah Pyle, and friend Deedra Hopkins.
The family thanks the many caregivers at Brighton Gardens for their attention to him for many years and the staff of Continua Hospice for their help in the last few months.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to South-Broadland Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
