Tom Lehan, 74, passed away on February 8, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born on September 15, 1950, in Bremerton, Washington, Tom lived a life rich in love, faith, and dedication to his family and community.
Tom pursued his education at the University of Notre Dame, earning a bachelor's degree in economics. His strong faith played a significant role in his decision to attend Notre Dame, following in the footsteps of his father. After completing his studies, he embarked on a successful career in the reinsurance industry, where he was instrumental in opening the first Kansas City branch for American Reinsurance. Over 27 years, Tom's leadership and vision helped grow the regional office, securing and managing some of the company's largest clients.
While living in Los Angeles, Tom met the love of his life, Jane. The two quickly formed a deep bond, and their love story led to 46 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Tom was a devoted husband and a loving father to his son Patrick and daughter Anne. His family was his greatest joy, and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with them. His granddaughter Mara held a special place in his heart, and he treasured every moment with her. He is also survived by his son-in-law Greg Glass and sister Nancy Wilson. Tom was predeceased by his parents, John and Ethel Lehan, and his brother, John Lehan.
A passionate athlete, Tom had a lifelong love for basketball. He played varsity basketball at Coronado High School and later coached his son Patrick throughout his youth. He remained active in the sport well into adulthood, frequently competing in recreational leagues at Health Plus. Golf was another of Tom's great loves, and he was fortunate to play on some of the world's most renowned courses. Yet, for all the excitement of competition, his favorite rounds were those spent alongside Jane.
Tom's faith was the cornerstone of his life. After moving to Kansas City from Los Angeles, he became a member of the Holy Cross congregation, where his children were baptized. For more than 30 years, he was an active member of the Church of the Nativity, volunteering in numerous roles, including Bible study.
He will be remembered as a caring, generous man who always put others before himself. Guided by an unwavering moral compass, he believed in helping those less fortunate and always striving to do what was right. Whether enjoying time on the golf course, watching big games with friends, or sharing a meal in good company, Tom deeply valued the relationships he built over the years.
When asked recently if he had any regrets or would change anything about his life, he smiled and said simply, "I wouldn't change a thing."
A visitation will be held on Saturday March 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity, located at 3800 W. 119th Street in Leawood, Kansas. A Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM.
