Thomas W. Newborn

Tom enjoyed a long and successful career in the insurance industry, earning the trust and respect of countless clients by helping them meet their insurance needs while forming lasting relationships and friendships along the way. He spent 30 years with Shifman, Remley and Associates, where he played an instrumental role in building the company's commercial lines department.

Outside of work, Tom's greatest joy was his family. He cherished every moment with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. He was also an avid sports fan whose interests ranged from cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals to following NASCAR and enjoying the game of golf.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and William "Bill" Newborn; his stepmother, Cecile Newborn; and his brother, William "Bill" Newborn.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Eddie Newborn; his son, Curtis Newborn (Amy); his daughter, Amy Brundage (Shae); and his sisters, Sally Pomeroy and Kathleen Scroggins. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Morgan Beschta, Kelsey Denklau (Alex), Ben Cooper, Ricky Frierson, and Sylas Brundage; his great-grandson, Nolan Molendi; his sister-in-law, Judy Newborn; and his nieces and nephews, Andy Newborn, Andrea Warlen Hummert (Thomas), Geoffrey Thomas Warlen (Lori), Michael Warlen (Irene), and Mark Scroggins.

Tom will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his integrity in his profession, his genuine friendships, and his lifelong enthusiasm for sports. His kindness, loyalty, and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life honoring Tom on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Oakshire Club House, 9555 Nieman Place, Overland Park, KS 66214. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Tom's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Veterans Community Project in Kansas City. Tom deeply admired the unwavering dedication and sacrifice of our nation's service members, including many of his own family members and friends who served. Knowing that a donation could help furnish a new tiny home or provide rehabilitation and supportive services for a Veteran rebuilding their life would have meant the world to him.
